Sencha

Sencha tea was first produced in the 17th century. The tea leaf was brought over to Japan from China. Before that, matcha was the preferred drink of choice in Japan. However, once sencha was introduced, it became a go-to for the Japanese. This is because the tea didn’t require any kind of preparation in advance, unlike other teas, so it could be enjoyed as soon as possible. In today’s world, sencha is still a favorite. In fact, 80% of all tea that comes from Japan is sencha.

This week’s tea: Obubu Farm’s Sencha of Brightness

Pale yellow in color, Brightness has a floral aroma with gentle tones of elderberry. It is a medium-bodied tea with a subtle umami taste and underlying notes of avocado and apricot. Before its summer harvest, it is shaded from the sun for two weeks which creates a smooth and airy Sencha.

Tasting notes: Rich with subtle umami

Opinion: Really nice summer harvest. Perfect everyday “go to”
